Interactive Narrative Domains and Examples

This dissertation concerns interactive drama, which is a kind of interactive narrative. An interactive narrative is essentially a story that changes in response to its reader. The field of interactive narrative can be found at the intersection of narrative art forms, games, and artificial intelligence, with a number of examples already existing. Yet interactive narrative is a relatively new endeavor; most true examples of it have existed for less than fifty years. The advent of the digital computer--a medium that excels at both processing and interactivity--has greatly increased the incidence of interactive narrative.
