- "Emacs (or make, or CC) won't run!" -- For those with a changed PATH (especially those who had me as a 211 TA).
C/C++
- The C Standard Library -- Basic documentation of the libraries of C functions available to you across platforms. [local copy]
- C/C++ Reference -- Perhaps not as complete or authoritative as some sources, but usually includes short code examples.
- Dinkum C++ Library Reference Manual -- To enter, silently agree not to copy any of the site, then click on the footprint trail graphic.
Unix and related tools
- Unix Tutorial for Beginners -- Tutorials 1 and 2 are important, 3 through 5 would be helpful, and the rest are advanced/optional.
- An introductory tutorial to Unix from WDVL -- Day 2's content is probably the most useful to you, but Day 1 and Day 3 are also very helpful.
- Unix Editor Bare Essentials -- Just enough info to let you use vi, pico, and emacs.
- Make Tutorial - A brief tutorial on Make from UH's Engineering department.
Windows
- Visual Studio Basics -- Enough information to get you started using Visual Studio .NET.
- Writing C on Windows (for Free!) -- Ports of the gcc compiler for Windows, and more.
General
